How can we use our resources to help others the most? Effective altruism is a philosophy and global movement that combines both the heart and the head. We use evidence and reason to find out how we can best solve global challenges.

At this year’s Effective Altruism Global X Berlin (EAGxBerlin), about 300 people – academics, professionals, and students alike – will gather in order to explore the most effective and evidence-based ways to improve the world. The conference will feature speakers from the effective altruism movement as well as professionals and researchers from relevant fields, with about 60% of the program in English, including most keynote presentations. Among others, we will discuss the following topics:

  • Global poverty, evidence-based development cooperation, and development economics
  • Animal ethics and animal advocacy
  • Opportunities and risks of emerging technologies
  • Ethics of career choice

There will be introductory and advanced talks on each topic as well as interactive discussions.

The conference is organized by the Effective Altruism Foundation. If you’re unfamiliar with effective altruism, you can find out more in this introductory talk.

Keynote: Prof. William MacAskill, co-founder of the effective altruism movement
